Page 1 of 4 Round the Back of Roman Road.Wireless project, Bow Festival 2004. An online project created over a week in mid September 2004 as part of a public art event in Roman Road, Bow, London.
Having developed this project initially as part of of the Bow Festival 2004 there was a plan to extend this website database of movies to include other work from artists, filmmakers, community groups and anyone really who wants to get a message out and onto the web. The videos are of the residents off Bow, set around their interests, professions and mannerisms. Ben Scott intended to give an overview of the less official side of Roman Road. By cataloguing and editing the movies into sections for the website and working with the people interviewed Ben was able to creatively understand how life functions down Roman Road market, more particularly when art is put into that context. Over the week of the festival many subjects were discussed, these ranged from:
The interviewing process differed from a conventional documentary format in that the subjects discussed were led more by the interviewees interests than the interviewers agenda. This was an attempt to let people voice opinions more freely. During the editing process it was decided that the original static portrait format represented individuals well and the giving those individuals importance was a way of cataloguing that suited the project. Specific topics discussed were also edited into short montages. "Would you like to see some of my drawings. I think I like to draw people that've got character. He'd be good, his hairs good to draw. You know what a mean, I can't explain it. You would as well." If you have any enquiries about the project the contact me and I can send you a DVD, the plan is to host these movies using a database again much like they were during the festival. Project Credits:
