FCP introduction

Introduction to video editing using Final Cut Pro. With the solid grounding this course instills learners should have few problems with basic editing in the future and may wish to learn more in advanced courses.

Agreed learning outcomes. At the end of the course, the learner should:

  • Use the Apple Macintosh interface to load, save and navigate to files.
  • Identify different audio/video cables and their uses.
  • Explain what digital video is and connected concepts like timecode, project files, media files.
  • Show skill in capturing video in and ordered and logical manner.
  • Identify key features of the Final Cut Pro interface such as Browser, Timeline, Viewer and Canvas windows.
  • Explain the importance of markering footage before using the timeline.
  • Identify when, where and what to change on the interface
  • Compare different approaches to editing based on various types of source footage.
  • Edit a short sequence of digital video using a variety of edit tools in Final Cut Pro.
  • Demonstrate effectively printing an edited video from the computer to a digital video deck
